Ayurvedic Yoga Massage & Reiki Healing Workshop

SOMA Retreat Day

Saturday 8 December

Feeling like you need a little TLC? Join us for a special retreat day at SOMA focused on Ayurvedic Yoga Massage Techniques & Reiki Healing. Our lovely Marianna will lead this London yoga workshop teaching students the art of Ayurvedic deep tissue massage techniques as well as Reiki healing.

You will learn more about the body and how to release tension from the back, shoulders and neck for yourself and your loved ones.

We will cover:

Body anatomy and common injuries;
How to use and blend essential oils and Ayurvedic oils;
Preparing for a massage;
Ayurvedic massage techniques;
Shoulder opening techniques;
Neck release techniques; and
Reiki healing.

What is Ayurvedic Yoga Massage?

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage is a unique system of bodywork. It combines deep tissue massage with coordinated breath and yoga stretching. The session is performed on a mat on the floor for free movement, stretching and flow.

Deep tissue massage helps to remove knots and adhesions in the muscles and soft tissues, while the assisted stretches and breath exercises realign the body's posture and stimulate the natural flow of energy.

A topical ayurvedic herb is applied to the skin with a small amount of oil and acts as a blood detoxifier and nerve tonic.

These techniques incorporate the use of the hands and feet as tools for massage. The utilisation of the feet allows for deeper and more thorough pressure through long and graceful strokes.

This unique comprehensive approach to the body dissolves physical and emotional blocks, helps eliminate toxins, promotes correct posture, improves respiratory patterns, enhances energy levels and leaves the receiver with a profound sense of well being.

AYM is a full body holistic treatment where the whole body is massaged and stretched in each session.

What is different about Ayurvedic Massage?

This ancient Indian massage technique treats not just the body, but also the nervous system by bringing nourishment to the tissues, cells and energy channels. Special blended Ayurvedic massage oils are used to maximize the healing process. The oil is infused with Ayurvedic herbs for individual body-mind constitution composed of a Dosha, a combination of the five different elements. Marianna will help choose and personally blend your oils specific to your needs.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Reiki works on different levels of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of your being. This ancient Japanese method of healing uses energy to balance the body and mind, and its benefits can be felt by both Reiki practitioners and their clients.

One of the greatest Reiki healing health benefits is the reduction of stress. It helps relax the body which  triggers the body’s natural healing abilities  through the immune system.

Reiki can also heal mental or emotional wounds by working through and alleviating mood swings, fear, frustration and even anger.

Gong Bath Meditation feat. Leo Cosendai

Gong Bath Meditation

~ Special Term Event ~

Friday 28 September, 19:30-21:00

Don’t miss our Autumn term Kick-off with London’s most sought after meditation and Gong Bath expert, Leo Cosendai.

Sound therapy has long been used to manage a broad range of health conditions. The treatments are based on the understanding that all forms of matter – including our body’s cells – vibrate at different frequencies. Factors such as stress, depression and disease cause cells and organs within our bodies to vibrate at non-optimal frequencies.

Gong meditation is a unique type of sound practice that involves using therapeutic gong sounds and vibrations to bring about healing, allowing the brain to reach deep relaxation – specifically the delta and theta brain wave states, which are the slowest brain waves in humans. We tend to reach these states during daydreaming or deep sleep, and they are known to aid relaxation, creativity and natural healing.

It’s a special experience which should not be missed. The Hot Room will be transformed into an amazing Gong sanctuary. Members are encouraged to do the Elementals Water class beforehand and then slip into the deep relaxation and meditation.

About Leo. Leo Cosendai, is London’s foremost sound healer who is changing the way people interact with sound as well as how we all perceive music. His work in making meditation and sound baths accessible to all has gained him recognition as a leading voice in the wellness movement.

He has been featured widely in the press, appearing in The Guardian, The Telegraph, VICE, Huffington Post, Daily Mail and Evening Standard to name but a few.

Leo’s early years were spent between Switzerland and Asia, where he was exposed to a culture which has discreetly shaped his path. Passionate about art, music, and therapy, he went on to study composition, singing, yoga+meditation around the world.

Leo has been helping thousands of people transform their life through a combination of sound, yogic mindfulness and breath work;  a behaviour changing formula which helped eradicate the acute anxiety he had suffered from since early childhood. He now spends most of his time sharing those very tools and techniques with groups, individuals and businesses.

He has been featured widely in the press, appearing in The Guardian, The Telegraph, VICE, Huffington Post, Daily Mail and Evening Standard to name but a few.

Summer Cinema Festival

This summer we are taking you back to the great 80's.

Free and exclusively for SOMA House members and their friends.

Thursday, 9 August at 8pm, we are travelling back to 1986.

The year when Madonna got in trouble and ask her Papa not to Preach, and Europe began its Final Countdown. The Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School is where the best of the best train to refine their elite flying skills. When hotshot fighter pilot Maverick (Tom Cruise) is sent to the school, his reckless attitude and cocky demeanor put him at odds with the other pilots, especially the cool and collected Iceman (Val Kilmer). But Maverick isn’t only competing to be the top fighter pilot, he’s also fighting for the attention of his beautiful flight instructor, Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis).

Reserve a Bean Bag

Thursday, 9 August at 8pm, we are travelling back to 1989.

The year when Technotronic showed us the magic of the green screen and Pumped Up The Jam, and Cyndi Lauper finally got her driving license and Drove All Night. In this zany sequel, time-traveling duo Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) return from saving Marty’s future son from disaster, only to discover their own time transformed. In this nightmarish version of Hill Valley, Marty’s father has been murdered and Biff Tannen, Marty’s nemesis, has profited. After uncovering the secret to Biff’s success — a sports almanac from the future — Marty and the Doc embark on a quest to repair the space-time continuum.

Thursday, 2 August at 8pm, we are travelling back Back to the Future (1985).

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of Robert Zemeckis’ time travel classic Back to the Future. In this 1980s sci-fi classic, small-town California teen Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is thrown back into the ’50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents (Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson), and must make sure that they fall in love or he’ll cease to exist. Even more dauntingly, Marty has to return to his own time and save the life of Doc Brown.

Thursday, 26 July at 8pm, we are travelling back to the summer of 1978.

Experience the friendships, romances and adventures of a group of high school kids in the 1950s. Welcome to the singing and dancing world of “Grease,” the most successful movie musical of all time. A wholesome exchange student (Olivia Newton-John) and a leather-clad Danny (John Travolta) have a summer romance, but will it cross clique lines?

John Travolta solidified his position as the most versatile and magnetic screen presence of the decade in this film version of the smash hit play Grease. Recording star Olivia Newton–John made her American film debut as Sandy, Travolta’s naive love interest. The impressive supporting cast reads like a “who’s who” in this quintessential musical about the fabulous ’50s. Grease is not just a nostalgic look at a simpler decade – it’s an energetic and exciting musical homage to the age of rock ‘n’ roll.

Thursday, 19 July at 8pm, we are travelling back to 1987.

The year when the Bangles showed us how to Walk Like an Egyptian and all Whitney Houston ever wanted was to Dance with Somebody (who loves her), Baby (Jennifer Grey) is one listless summer away from the Peace Corps. Hoping to enjoy her youth while it lasts, she’s disappointed when her summer plans deposit her at a sleepy resort in the Catskills with her parents. Her luck turns around, however, when the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), enlists Baby as his new partner, and the two fall in love. Baby’s father forbids her from seeing Johnny, but she’s determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer.
